What does the New Canaan Preservation Alliance do?
The New Canaan Preservation Alliance, Inc. (P.O. Box 924, New Canaan 06840) was incorporated in 2007 as a 501(c)3 corporation. Its mission is “to establish as a community priority the conservation of the town’s character-defining historic architectural and natural environments.” Its volunteer 17-member board of directors, New Canaan residents, develop policies, programs and carry them out; its nine-member board of advisors (preservationists and architects from all over the state) provide vital information and support.
Members of the Alliance engage in research, identification of the town’s historic buildings, advocacy for historic preservation, and sound preservation planning. Its volunteers disseminate historic preservation information, teach an architectural course in the elementary schools, and hold educational programs, workshops and an annual birthday party when Preservation Awards are presented to local property owners.
