How many calls do the police respond to?
In 2010, the New Canaan Police Department responded to 18,807 calls (this includes motor vehicle stops) up from 17,874 calls in 2009, due to an increase in narcotics violations, alarm calls, fraud incidents and public hazards due to severe weather events. During 2010, police made a total of 194 arrests, including 32 narcotics violations, 35 family disputes, 1 sex offense and 40 DWI’s. Motor vehicle stops totaled 6,934, including 552 motor vehicle accidents resulting in property damage and 1,000 stops for cell phone violations, with 536 infractions issued. There was one fatal accident.
